Boston Public Library

The Donohue Group provides a variety of services to support the Boston Public Library. Library materials or surrogates are delivered to DGI's office where DGI catalogers work remotely in Boston Public Library's online system. When matching records are found in the online catalog, catalogers review and enhance them as necessary and add holdings information. When no record is found, catalogers retrieve records from appropriate sources or create original records. After cataloging, materials are processed according to the library's specifications and are then returned to the library ready for the shelf. DGI has handled a variety of materials in this way, including local history materials, music scores, government documents, maps, digital documents and foreign language materials.

DGI has completed additional projects including data manipulation to create MARC-like records from non-MARC data and working at a Boston Public Library site to select and package catalog cards for delivery to a digitization vendor.

Harvard University, Widener Library

Harvard University contracted with The Donohue Group to provide cataloging each month for a set number of French-language titles that are not represented in OCLC. Books were delivered to DGI's office where catalogers created MARC records in DGI's local cataloging utility. Catalogers consulted Harvard's Hollis catalog to produce records compatible with existing cataloging. Records were then delivered to Harvard and automatically loaded into their cataloging server. Books were returned to Harvard where the cataloging was reviewed.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

The Donohue Group provides foreign language and music cataloging support to MIT's cataloging departments. DGI staff includes strong music catalogers with long experience and native-speaking or fluent foreign language catalogers. DGI catalogers work both in the DGI offices and at an MIT site, as necessary.

Foreign language materials are shipped to the DGI office where expert catalogers search MIT's Barton catalog to make sure there is no existing record. Catalogers then create full-level records in OCLC and store them until library materials are returned to the library. Records are upgraded or updated as appropriate and appear in the Barton catalog at the same time that the books are delivered. DGI's client liaison works closely with MIT staff to make sure that each title is handled according to MIT's local standards.

Music cataloging is performed at MIT's library working with the material in hand and using MIT local system. Expert catalogers provide full-level cataloging for each title.

Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Donohue Group has been working with The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City to catalog each of the Museum’s departmental libraries. Each department’s needs are analyzed to ensure the best outcome for the department, library, and curators.  Some libraries require full cataloging while others only require reclassification. At the end of each project, the library’s online catalog represents what is on their shelves, and the curators are able to search the Museum’s online catalog to find materials.

National Plastics Center

DGI provided cataloging, archives and consulting services to the National Plastics Center to assist public access to their library and archives. The cataloging project included copy and original cataloging, labeling of books, and re-shelving and shifting of volumes. DGI staff consulted on NPC's choice of an integrated library management system (ILMS). DGI's professional archivist processed and described the Center's archives, paper records and photographic material donated over the years. The archivist organized and arranged the material into collections and series, re-housed where appropriate and wrote collection-level finding aids based on DACS (Describing Archives: A Content Standard). Each finding aid is described by a MARC record in the library catalog as well.
